Item Savitribai Phule: A Great Social Reformer(2021) Braganza, RitaThe paper is a humble attempt to draw insights from the live of a great revolutionary educator, Savitribai Phule whose mission in life was to support the downtrodden women. She is an inspiration for all women undergoing suffering in various fields in society. In order to alleviate the position of women, women should get educated. Education was the prerogative of the elite caste, and to initiate the process of the transformation of society, both men and women should be educated. The life of Savitribai Phule is an inspiration for the student and the teacher, the parent and the community at large. With the dynamic backing of her liberal minded husband, Mr Jyotirao Phule, she embarked on a mission to cleanse society of the age old superstitious evils, which debarred the welfare of the lower caste people. The purpose was to know how they are different from the other mainstream society. The qualitative and quantitative method has been used to gather the information. The result of the survey is quite interesting as it provides an incredibly unique information about their lifeItem Reconstruction of hypergraphs from line graphs and degree sequences(2020) Godinho, AloysiusIn this paper we consider the problem to reconstruct a k-uniform hypergraph from its line graph. In general this problem is hard. We solve this problem when the number of hyperedges containing any pair of vertices is bounded. Given an integer sequence, constructing a k-uniform hypergraph with that as its degree sequence is NP-complete. Here we show that for constant integer sequences the question can be answered in polynomial time using Baranyai’s theorem.Item Empirically Mapping the Evolutionary Phases of Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC): The Case of Goa, India(2021) Gore, SurabhiThis paper aims to simulate the stages of the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) in Goa, India, based on the number of tourist arrivals and tests whether the stages correspond with the stages of TALC as predicted in the theory. The graphs are plotted for total, foreign, and domestic tourists from 1962-2018. A compliance assessment of the indicators with the TALC stages is also done to ascertain the extent of development. The leading indicators of the exploration, stagnation, and decline stages are identified. The lagging indicator shows sluggish tourism planning initiatives. It is observed that the TALC differs for domestic and foreign tourists' arrivals. The study provides an important historical perspective on the pattern of growth of tourism in Goa. The pattern can further be employed as a basis to guide the process of strategy formulation.Item A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF 10+2 LEVEL COURSES AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENTS STUDYING IN THIRD YEAR, BACHELOR IN COMPUTER APPLICATIONS(2020) Almeida, TracyThe evolving needs of technical education compel students at the 10+ 2 level to adhere to meet the needs of the entry level eligibility criteria. Therefore students who are unable to pursue Higher Education (HE) in engineering and other technical disciplines now stand a chance to enhance their technical knowledge through educational programmes like Bachelors in Computer Science, Bachelors in Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelors in Information Technology. BCA is one such programme offered at the Goa University in the ten colleges across the state of Goa. College courses are fundamentally different from high school courses and there needs to be a proper choice of subject courses at 10+2 level that will help students to bridge the gap and to meet the standards of HE (Conley et al, 2007). This paper seeks to ascertain the influence of a few educational attributes at the 10+2 level on the performance at TY in the BCAprogramme. It also intends to provide suggestions to students who intend doing HE in the BCAprogramme. Keywords : Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA), Mathematics (Math), Higher Education (HE), Computer Techniques (CT), 10+2 level, First Year (FY), Third Year(TY)Item An empirical study on investment strategies and behavioural biases of individual investors in Goa(2020) Costa, Juao & Gonsalves, AncyItem Assessment of technology strategies for sustainable tourism planning(2020) Gore, SurabhiPurpose An essential requirement for tourism planning and policymaking is to review past strategies. The development of future roadmaps depends on a robust strategy validation process. The research analyses the technology strategies in Goa from 1962–2017 and highlights the impact of technology on tourism in Goa. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents a unique methodology that integrates tourism area life cycle (TALC) and Mintzberg’s strategy analysis framework to evaluate strategies at a tourism destination. Findings The findings show that most technological advancements have taken place during the period 1989–2008. Both deliberate and emergent strategies were identified. Development of technology altered the type of tourism practiced in Goa. The use of internet facilitated the growth of tourism. Research limitations/implications This study clarifies the styles of public planning for tourism. It provides the foundation for strategic planning process. Practical implications Effective and efficient use of policy through technology road mapping can aid in co-creating a sustainable tourism destination for the future. Social implications The strategic evaluation framework can be used in any tourism destinations to identify past strategies and assess its impact on the future. Originality/value The paper presents a unique methodology that integrates TALC and Mintzberg’s strategy analysis framework to evaluate strategies at a tourism destination. The research proposes a strategic evaluation process that recognizes past strategies to validate the strategic analysis process.Item Tourist Satisfaction at Beach Shacks: Case Study Analysis(2020) Barretto, HelicTourists normally are not interested to stay in boring hotels because they want to explore the unknown around the world. In Goa, tourists prefer to stay in shacks as they offer excellent service and give a unique experience. Shacks in Goa are seasonal structures erected close to the beach. The study is quantitative in nature, based on a random sample of 400 tourists, including 200 foreign nationals. The data was collected during the month of October to December 2019 using a structured questionnaire. Using Exploratory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Model the findings indicate that the Personalized Services, Leisure Services, and Convenience Services significantly contribute to the satisfaction of tourists visiting beach shacks in GoaItem Destination Life Cycle of Goan Beach Shacks(2021) Barretto, HelicThe study analyzes the stage of the Destination Life Cycle beach shacks lies at present in the State of Goa. Beach shacks are temporary restaurants located on the beach serving home-cooked food along with beverages. The study is quantitative in nature, based on a random sample of 250 respondents, collected during October 2018 to May 2019 using structured questionnaire. The statistical tools used are chi-square test, Butler‟s Tourism Area Life Cycle model, and the Additive Points scoring technique to model the Destination Life Cycle stage. The findings indicate that beach shacks lie in the Development Stage of the Destination Life Cycle based on the average number of tourist visits, average amount spent by tourists per visit, per person at a shack, average profits per month, and average monthly operating expenses of a shack. However, they lie in the Involvement Stage based on the average number of people employed at shacks.
