Item Socio-Economic Analysis of Self-Employed People in Chinchinim Salcete Goa(ASST. PROF. JOHN XAVIER D’SOUZA, 2026) ALFIYA JAMADAR; ASHWINI SHETTY; SANIA BAGAWAN; SWIZEL REBELLO; SUNIL VALMIKIThis project studies people who depend on self-employment for their livelihood in Chinchinim village of Salcete Taluka, Goa. Due to the shortage of regular salaried employment in the village, many residents have chosen self-employment as their main source of income. The purpose of this study is to examine the types of self- employment activities undertaken, the way income is earned and managed, and the challenges faced while carrying out these activities. The research is descriptive in nature. Primary data were collected from 63 self- employed individuals through a questionnaire. Secondary information was gathered from books, reports, journals, and reliable online sources to support the study. The collected data were analyzed using simple percentage techniques and presented in the form of tables and charts to make the findings easy to understand. The results of the study indicate that a large number of respondents are involved in small business and service-based activities. Their earnings are irregular and change from time to time, which makes saving money difficult. The main issues faced by self-employed people include intense competition, limited access to finance, long working hours, and lack of awareness about government schemes. The study concludes that while Self-employment offers independence and flexibility, it requires better institutional support, financial assistance, and awareness to ensure long-term stability and sustainability.
