Item A Structured Literature Review of the Tourism Area Life Cycle Concept(2022) Gore, SurabhiThe tourism area life cycle is used to map the changes within the tourism destination on a temporal basis. The paper reviews the literature on the tourism area life cycle from 2003-2020. Articles appearing in journals having a cite score of 1.0 or higher were considered for the review process. The paper uses a structured review methodology and a widely accepted technique of content analysis to review the articles. The tourism area life cycle, as a concept, has traced its lifecycle. However, the use of the tourism area life cycle for tourism planning and strategy analysis is lacking. The authors recommend tourism area life cycle based research on macro-environmental and tourism-specific factors to identify strategies at the destination. Ex-post-facto research seeks to reveal the correlational relationship between the variables responsible for destination development. The paper also suggests tourism area life cycle research on accommodation units, restaurants, transport, infrastructure, market segments, and tourism attractions.Item An Exploratory Study of Teachers’ Perception During Covid-19 Pandemic(2022) D’Silva, Jeronimo; D’Souza, CharmaineItem Challenges Faced by Academic Libraries Due to Resource Sharing and Networking Models(2021) Barretto, Helic; Sawant Dessai, PranayEach day millions of books, journals and ephemera are being published and to keep track of these books and literature and to provide them to the information seeking community is a herculean task for Academic Libraries. The difference between good or bad data can be explained as to how accurately the information is dispersed to the academic community. In these circumstances, it becomes significant for libraries to collectively come together and help each other by forming a resource sharing model. Across the globe numerous such models have been formed but most of them struggled to thrive on a long run. The present paper discusses the challenges faced by the resource sharing models and the possible solutions to overcome these problems for the smooth functioning of the consortia.Item Depression as a Predictor of Suicide among College Students(2022) D’Silva, JeronimoItem Destination Life Cycle of Beach Shacks and Profits earned in each Stage(2022) Barretto, HelicThe Destination Life Cycle concept explains how a destination, resort, ora product develops over time and the successive stages it passes through. It also identifies the present stage a destination, resort or a product lie in its life cycle. The paperaims at identifying the stage of the Destination Life Cycle beach shacks lie at present in the State of Goabased on five selected parameters. It also evaluates the profitability of shacks in each stage of the destination life cycle. Beach shacks in the State of Goaare seasonal restaurants, located on the beach, serving food and beverages to the tourists. The study is quantitative in nature, based on a random sample of 250 shacks from a population of 400, collected during the months of October 2018 to May 2019 using structured questionnaire. The statistical tools used are Additive Point’sscoring technique and one-way ANOVA. The findings indicate that beach shacks lie in the Development Stage of the Destination Life Cycle and are earning the maximum profit in its Stagnation Stage.Item Destination Life Cycle of Goan Beach Shack(2021) Barretto, HelicItem Empirically Mapping the Evolutionary Phases of Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC): The Case of Goa, India(2021) Gore, SurabhiThis paper aims to simulate the stages of the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) in Goa, India, based on the number of tourist arrivals and tests whether the stages correspond with the stages of TALC as predicted in the theory. The graphs are plotted for total, foreign, and domestic tourists from 1962-2018. A compliance assessment of the indicators with the TALC stages is also done to ascertain the extent of development. The leading indicators of the exploration, stagnation, and decline stages are identified. The lagging indicator shows sluggish tourism planning initiatives. It is observed that the TALC differs for domestic and foreign tourists' arrivals. The study provides an important historical perspective on the pattern of growth of tourism in Goa. The pattern can further be employed as a basis to guide the process of strategy formulation.Item High Utility Itemset Mining Using Genetic Approach(2022) Almeida, Tracy; Khan, SalmanFrequent Itemset Mining(FIM) aims to generate itemsets having their frequency of occurrence not lesser than minimum support specified by the user. FIM does not consider the itemset utility which is the it’s profit value. High-utility itemset mining(HUIM) mines high-utility itemsets(HUI) from data. HUIM is a combinatorial optimization. With HUIM algorithms, the time required to search increases exponentially with an increasing number of transactions and database items. To address this issue an efficient algorithm to mine HUIs is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses a compact form of chromosome encoding by eliminating the itemsets with low transactional utilities. The algorithm employs methodology of self mutation to reduce generation of unwanted chromosomes. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm finds HUIs for a given threshold value. The proposed algorithm consumes less time as compared to another HUIM algorithm HUIM-IGA.Item Impact of Schemes Designed for Women in Goa on their Self-Esteem and Psychological Wellbeing(2022) Fernandes, DaniellaThe present study was undertaken to examine the Impact of Schemes Designed for Women in Goa on their Self-Esteem and Psychological Well-Being. The sample consisted of women belonging from the age group 18- 40 years and above. These women belonged to the various talukas of Goa. The sample comprised of 1050 women. The tools used in this study included Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale developed by Morris Rosenberg and the Ryffs Psychological Well-Being Scale developed by Carol Ryff. Data was analysed by incorporating the t-test and ANOVA. The results have shown that women who have availed schemes have shown higher level of self-esteem. Women who have not faced difficulties in applying for schemes have shown higher psychological well-being and self-esteem. The studies also revealed that women who have received skill training, have their own business and are employed in an organization show better psychological well-being and self-esteem in comparison to housewives. Women who are employed show higher level of self-esteem and psychological well-being compared to women who are unemployed.Item Should the Maharajah be Dethroned? A Case Study of Air India(2021) Costa, JuaoAir India, like any other public sector undertaking/government company, is incurring losses and trapped under the heavy burden of debt. The taxpayers’ money is being utilized to keep the sinking Maharajah on a ventilator. The first attempt to sell 76% stake in Air India failed miserably due to several reasons as identified by the transaction advisor of the Government of India. The reasons are Government of India’s 24% ownership and equivalent rights, heavy debt around INR 38,000 crores, fluctuations in macro environment, no individual bidding, consistent losses, and buyers not being able to form a cartel within the given time period. Why is that such a big ship is drowning today ? Is it overburdened with the losses and loans? Why is it unable to introduce some revival strategy ? What are the reasons responsible for its failure? Disinvestment should be the last option, especially for a rich entity and a national carrier like Air India. However, the government is in a hurry to exercise its last option, which is to sell it. The government has now made a second attempt to modify and sell it under promising conditions. The main objective of this case study was to discuss the current situation of Air India and examine the best option available for it, including reverting the decision to sell. The case provided pointers concerning all the options available for the airline.Item “Social Support and Loneliness among Adolescents during COVID-19 Pandemic(2021) D’Silva, JeronimoAdolescents face many challenges as they pass through the stage of adolescence. They encounter many crises in life and face many mental issues such as anxiety, depression, and loneliness. (1978), and the Perceived Social Support Multidimensional Scale by Zimet et al. (1988). The sample consisted of 348 adolescents in the age group of 17-20 from different colleges. Findings revealed that there exists a significant negative correlation (-375; p>0.01) between social support and loneliness, no significant gender difference was found, also no strong association was found between social support and the mother's working status and social support and the number of siblings of adolescents.Item The Researcher’s guide to the Indian bureaucracy(2021) Deshpande, TanviItem Tourists’ Expectations and Satisfaction towards Ecotourism in Goa: An Empirical Study(2021) Costa, JuaoGoa is famous for its sun and sand and is also blessed with natural beauty along with various heritage sites, churches and temples. Goa is marketed worldwide as a beach tourism destination, which reached its optimum level. Therefore, there is a need to promote other avenues of tourism. The current study focuses on ecotourism in Goa. For the growth of a specific tourist destination through strategic planning, it is necessary to understand the nature of tourist contentment and discontent. This research is necessary as it will provide a clear image of satisfaction and unhappiness with certain facilities. Gap analysis is used to examine the gap between tourists’ expectations before visiting and satisfaction level after the visit at various ecotourism sites with reference to the various ecotourism services available. A negative gap was found with respect to all the 29 variables used to measure tourists’ satisfaction with the ecotourism services. The ecotourism services available in Goa need proper attention, so that Goa can be promoted as a world class tourism destination. There is a need for destination planners to undertake measures for improving and maintaining appropriate ecotourism services in Goa
