| dc.description.abstract | This project is based on the festival of Sao Joao, also known as the Feast of St. Jhon the Baptist, which is celebrated in Goa on 24th June during the monsoon season. The main aim of this study is to understand its historical origin, religious significance, and meaning of this festival in Goan culture. Sao Joao was introduced during the Portugues rule and shows a mix of Christian traditions and local customs. Traditionally, people celebrate by wearing flower crowns and jumping into the wells and ponds as a sign of joy and to welcome the rains. The project also talks about the modern changes taking place in the celebration. Today ,Sao Joao includes organized events, boat parades, music, tourism activities and social media influence. Even though the style of celebration is changing, the festival still holds strong cultural and religious value for the people of Goa | |
